The Art of Slowing Down

What if just 10 minutes a day could give you increased focus and a more level-headed reaction to stress? Meditation allows for you to take a pause from your day and silence your mind. Contrary to popular belief, being extremely busy is not a badge of honor. It is important to embrace rest, silence, and relaxation.

What’s in for you? With just a few minutes of downtime, you can:

  • Focus on the present
  • Reduce stress and negative emotions
  • Increase patience and tolerance
  • Improve memory and attention span
  • Increase imagination and creativity

Here’s a tip for getting started – put your phone on DND (do not disturb), turn off your distractions, and find a comfortable place to sit. Thoughts WILL pop into your head, just acknowledge them and let them go. It’s time to refocus!

Stock Split

Many of you may have recently heard the term stock split. It’s really not a good or bad thing but it does tend to excite investors because they can often buy stock at a reduced price.

Amazon recently announced a stock split – thus the term popping into our news feeds. Their Board of Directors approved a split of 20 to 1, which means that for every one share of Amazon stock that someone owns, they will get 19 more. However, keep in mind that the price is determined by taking one share and dividing it 20 ways. Why split? Typically, when a stock grows in value it can become hard for a retail investor to buy shares, but a stock split will create a palatable price. Whenever there’s a split, typically the stock goes up.

Amazon also announced a stock buy-back program. This means that Amazon will go into the open market and buy their own shares. It’s an interesting time for Amazon stock and we look forward to seeing what the future holds.

This is not a recommendation or endorsement of Amazon, if you have questions about investing, please contact our office and we are more than happy to meet with you.
