Bitter Sweet

Bitter Sweet

There are certain events that happen each year that mark the passing of time. As a father of 3 children, one of those for me is the end of summer. I have cherished summers of the past for time hiking with my girls, splashing in the pool, watching them play sports and cooking smores over our patio fire pit. With each summer’s end I must acknowledge they are getting a little bit older and as their schedules increase in complexity, time is growing shorter. About 8 years ago my daughters and I were jumping on the trampoline one evening on their last day of summer. We had just gotten a call to come inside for dinner. “Wait!” I blocked the exit and said, “Girls, this summer is over but we are going to make a promise to each other that we are going to continue to have a blast the rest of the year.” In my mind it was a wonderful moment , maybe one they would remember long after I'm gone. My middle daughter, who is my absolute wildcard, must have noticed my eyes had gotten slightly moist, probably from all the jumping. She pointed out to her sisters, “Dad is a baby, he’s crying." “I am not!," I protested. Everyone knows Dad doesn't cry. So, it has become a bit of a summer tradition in my family that at the conclusion of every summer we promise each other to continue the fun of summer through the fall and winter ... and then they remind me about the time I had tears in my eyes. Life is sometimes bitter sweet. The trick is to understand that sadness only comes from appreciating the wonderful gifts life has provided.

Life Insurance Awareness Month

September is national life insurance awareness month. As a planner there is no subject that I place greater importance upon. I tell the younger advisors in my office, the first time you have to deliver a life insurance check, it will completely change your perspective on the service you provide. The financial security life insurance provides to families and businesses is well known. What is not as well-known are many of the ancillary benefits life insurance can:

  • provide such as paying for nursing home care
  • tax-free growth of cash
  • diversification
  • low interest loans and tax-free income streams

Crosby Advisory Group, LLC will be posting information on our social media, blog and podcast all through the month of September.  I hope you get a chance to check it out and if you'd like to review your coverage, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Financial Wellness

Carly Snyder asked me to talk briefly on the topic of “Financial Wellness," which is a term that has become synonymous with financial planning over the past two decades. I posted a recent podcast on the topic. You can search for our podcast, “Dynamic Growth," wherever you listen to podcasts or click here to listen on your computer.
